The US government has increased funding for VPN services Psiphon, Lantern and nthLink to “help Russian users bypass blocking.” This publication reported Reuters.
According to open sources, these services received at least $4.8 million from 2015 to 2021. Investments have almost doubled since February of this year to cope with the influx of users from Russia.
In May, about 4 million Russians used the above VPN services. Psiphon, for example, is used by 1.3 million Russians daily.
According to Top10VPN analysts, VPN demand in Russia grew by 2088% before Facebook* and Instagram* blocking. Now the demand is not as high, but still 425% higher than at the beginning of February.
