Japan’s Toshikazu Yamanishi successfully defended his 20-kilometre race walk title at the world athletic championships in Eugene in the US state of Oregon on Friday. The 26-year-old Olympic bronze medallist overtook his teammate Koki Ikeda in the final kilometre to take gold with a season best time of 1 hour 19 minutes 7 seconds. Ikeda crossed the line with a time of 1:19:14 for silver, ahead of Sweden’s Perseus Karlström who took bronze.
