The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall laid the foundation for what many would now describe as the Bethesda Formula. Finally, with the second part of the Elder Scrolls series, the open-world formula was established, which is also used in current titles such as fallout, Skyrim or Starfield you can see. For curious Bethesda fans who haven’t had any contact with Daggerfall before, this may be the best way to get to grips with the title. Finally was recently with Daggerfall Unity released a massive technical upgrade for the game by modders. With this, the game was in the unity engine ported and equipped with numerous bug fixes, graphical updates and other new features. Daggerfall Unity is now also available as a so-called “GOG Cut” on Gog.com totally free download.
In other words, you can play the technically best version of The Elder Scrolls 2 to date on your PC completely free of charge. The biggest advantage of the GOG version compared to the original Daggerfall Unity variant is that it works out of the box without a particularly complex installation.
Daggerfall and the size
Daggerfall was once known for its massive size. The map was according to Bethesda 480,000 square kilometers big. However, this impressive landmass is a randomly generated environment. Nevertheless, there is a lot to explore for the players today. The graphic update in particular should make the title much more palatable for younger fans who were not confronted with the role-playing game in the 90s.
Everything as usual
As in many Bethesda titles, Daggerfall lets you take on a variety of quests, join guilds, travel the world, and customize your character. So the waiting time until the next Elder Scrolls or at least until the release of Starfield can be shortened a bit. However, GOG warns in the product description that this project is also under continuous development. Accordingly, technical problems could arise.
