Publisher Atari and developer iLLOGIKA have announced Atari Mania, a microgame collection with 150 titles. This includes Atari classics from the 1970s and 80s.

Atari Mania: 150 microgames from the 70s and 80s this summer

As part of the celebration of Atari’s 50th birthday, Atari Mania aims to offer fans a way to relive their favorite games and characters from the iconic brand. At the same time, they want to introduce a young generation of gamers to games that shaped the industry a long time ago.

Wade Rosen, CEO of Atari, leads in a press release: “Atari Mania takes the elements of an Atari classic – incredible fun, fast-paced gameplay – and blends them with the self-referential humor and over-the-top joy of a company celebrating five decades of amazing experiences.”

Retro puzzles, easter eggs and boss fights

In Atari Mania we slip into the role of the so-called guardian of the Atari vault, who guards a warehouse full of the publisher’s retro titles. One night, a dead pixel appears and soon the insanity begins. As we journey through the vault, we find that our beloved video games suddenly begin to mutate and merge into a series of increasingly wild challenges.

Over 150 lightning-fast microgames are waiting for us: In these we come across killer combinations of game elements from well-known Atari titles: solve puzzles, complete challenges and always keep an eye on the clock. The games are peppered with Easter Eggs that we can discover on our way through the game. The mini-games are getting more and more difficult and await us in a randomly generated order before we have to prove ourselves in epic boss fights at the end of a level.

According to the announcement trailer, it should be ready this summer, because that’s when Atari Mania is coming our way with its large array of microgames. The collection will be released for Switch, the PC (via Steam) and Atari’s in-house VCS console.
