Be careful if you use Whatsapp, messaging is currently used as part of a phishing campaign specifically targeting France.
A message is thus circulating on the service and invites users to click on a link concerning a contest organized by the distributor Leroy Merlin aiming to win a barbecue for Father’s Day.
To participate in the operation, you are asked to share the message with at least 10 contacts, which explains the rapid proliferation of the scam on the network… Once the link is clicked, you are asked to participate in the costs of delivery and therefore to enter their bank details for a direct debit of 1 to 2 euros…
Except that the site displayed is not that of Leroy Merlin but a copy hosted in Russia. A malicious script then takes care of installing malware on the victim’s PC, which then displays advertising pop-ups.
Bank data is also used to subscribe victims to a “club” at the rate of €44 per month.
