Microsoft ended free support for Windows 7 in 2020. Now the operating system continues to receive updates, but already on a paid basis as part of extended support for organizations Windows 7 ESU. Microsoft said when this version of the operating system will stop being updated.

The license to support updates must end in January 2026. This is evidenced by the July security patches KB5015861 and KB5015862, which include the necessary keys.

Windows 7 will receive five more updates: SP1 Enterprise, SP1 Pro, Server 2008 R2, Embedded Standard 7, and Embedded POS Ready 7.

Oddly enough, this version of the operating system is still popular. According to Statcounter, it holds 11.54% of the market, which is more than Windows 11 (10.96%).

The situation is similar with Internet Explorer. The browser has ceased to exist, but at the same time, it is used by the corporate segment. Japanese companies were not ready to turn it off.

On June 15, Microsoft finally “buried” Internet Explorer. The browser was still in use by many companies and government agencies in Japan. As a result, the companies were in chaos.
