During an interview with the site VGCHousemarque’s Eevi Korhonen discussed the production of Returnalthe first big budget game in the studio’s history, which had no choice but to abandon a number of ideas along the way, a necessary step for any big production.
“Returnal was so ambitious. We dreamed super big, but we still had to put a lot of things in the closet. All these ideas and narrative systems. I’m very excited to cover these tracks and see how they can fit into the story of our new IP“, explains Korhonen, suggesting that the next game from Housemarque is therefore in a register more or less close to Returnal.
Alumnus of Remedy, Eevi Korhonen joined Housemarque in September 2018 as narrative designer and was promoted senior narrative designer so early Returnal released in May 2021. According to her, Housemarque is now in a much better position to take on a new big production head on thanks to the experience acquired on Returnal.
“We had no idea the scale of Returnal, development on a new platform, new engine and new team, all of these things take some learning. Now we have this team that has seen it all and learned how to build a game like Returnal. So we can come back stronger“, she explains.
