In a recent report, Game, the association of the German video game industry, dealt with the development of the German gaming market. As it is said, the local video game market recorded another big growth in 2021. The number of players also increased in this country.

At the end of the week, Game, the branch association of the German video game industry, published a report in which the development of the local video game market is discussed.

As reported by Game, the German video game market continued to grow last year after the historic growth in 2020 caused by COVID-19. According to the present report, sales of 9.8 billion euros were generated in Germany in 2021 with video games, the corresponding hardware or accessories or fees for subscription services. Compared to the record year 2020, this corresponds to an increase of 17 percent.

A development that, according to Game and the surveys of the GfK Consumer Panel, is mainly due to the increased sales of in-game and in-app purchases. Sales here last year increased by 19 percent to 5.4 billion euros. Sales generated with consoles and other gaming hardware increased by 18 percent to 3.6 billion euros.

Six out of ten Germans played video games in 2021

After the strong growth in the Corona year 2020, interest in video games continued to increase in the past year, as reported by Game. According to this, almost six out of ten people in Germany in 2021 resorted to PC, console or mobile games. The number of players in Germany increased by one percent last year. As can also be seen from the surveys by GfK consumer panels, video games have now reached the masses in this country.

Accordingly, 18 percent of players in Germany are between 50 and 59 years old. The player group of 30 to 39 year olds is also given a value of 18 percent. After the average age of German gamers was 37.4 years in 2020, the figure in 2021 was almost 38 years. Not much has changed in the gender distribution of the German gaming community. At almost 48 percent, female gamers continue to make up almost half of all gamers.
