After the hype surrounding “Cyberpunk 2077”, the crash landing followed: the market value of CD Projekt is falling continuously. Even Techland is estimated to be valued higher than The Witcher studio right now.

There were times when CD Projekt’s market value was higher than that of publisher Ubisoft. But it was followed by the release of “Cyberpunk 2077”, which showed a catastrophic condition on the consoles, which even prompted Sony to remove the game from the PlayStation Store and offer refunds.

Since the release of “Cyberpunk 2077”, CD Projekt’s share price has generally only known one direction: Anyone who trusted certain investment advisors on YouTube during the launch phase of the title and put their money into the company ensured that their assets were effectively reduced.

Techland overtakes CD Projekt

The price of CD Projekt has fallen by 75 percent since its high in 2020. Or to put it another way: Before the launch of “Cyberpunk 2077”, a share was sometimes worth more than 100 euros. At the moment the price is below 20 euros – as in 2017.

According to estimates, CD Projekt is therefore worth less than Techland, also based in Poland, which recently made a name for itself with “Dying Light 2”. However, it should be noted here that Techland’s numbers are not public since the studio is not publicly traded.

pulse business estimates, however, that it could be as much as 10.6 billion złoty – around 2.2 billion euros. CD Projekt is worth around 2 billion euros at the current price.

“If 15 million shares are redeemed for PLN 900 million, one share will be valued at PLN 60. Assuming a number of 175.94 million shares of the company, the implied valuation of Techland is PLN 10.56 billion”, so biznesu.

In the years from 2017 to 2020, the share price of CD Projekt increased continuously. The expectations for “Cyberpunk 2077” were high after the Polish studio had enormous commercial success with “The Witcher 3”.

Accordingly, “Cyberpunk 2077” should be one of the most important releases of the last generation of consoles. After three delays, the highly anticipated RPG came out with a slew of technical issues. Also, the fact that CD Projekt kept the condition of the consoles a secret until the launch caused trust in the company to dwindle.

After six months and several patches, “Cyberpunk 2077” finally returned to Sony’s online marketplace in June 2021, and versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S are now also available. A major expansion is to follow.
