Buffett’s “Last Luncheon” auction price has exceeded $ 13 million – yqqlm

As of 4 p.m. ET Friday, $13.1 million has been bid on eBay for a chance to have a last charity lunch with billionaire Warren Buffett.

Currently, the highest bid is $13,141,314, far surpassing Justin Sun’s record bid of $4.57 million at auction in 2019. This year’s auctions on eBay will end at 10:30 pm ET on Friday (June 18 at 10:30 GMT).

Beneficiary of the auction is Glide, a nonprofit in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district, which provides meals, shelter, HIV and hepatitis C testing, job training and programs for children.

Before this year,Buffett, 91, helped Glide raise more than $34.1 million by auctioning off 20 private luncheons.The auction started in 2000, but was missed in 2020 and 2021 due to the outbreak. And Buffett has said that this will be the last charity auction.

Buffett has also pledged to give away nearly all of his wealth. Buffett had a net worth of about $93.4 billion as of Friday, ranking seventh globally, according to Forbes magazine.

This year’s auction winner can bring up to seven guests to lunch with Buffett at Smith & Wollensky Steakhouse in Manhattan. Buffett will talk about almost anything, although he won’t reveal where he might invest next.

Buffett became a Glide supporter after his first wife, Susan, introduced him to the Glide charity. Susan volunteered at Glide until her death in 2004.

Hedge fund managers David Einhorn and Ted Weschler have both been winners of previous auctions. Weschler paid a combined $5.25 million at auctions in 2010 and 2011 and became Berkshire Hathaway’s portfolio manager.

Berkshire Hathaway owns stocks in dozens of companies, including BNSF Railroad, Geico Auto Insurance, Apple and Bank of America, as well as a number of energy, manufacturing and retail companies.

Buffett still owns nearly 16% of Berkshire Hathaway, though he has donated more than half of his shares since 2006, including this week’s $4 billion donation.
