It was long before the dinosaurs. A giant, winged insect terrorized everything that passed near it. Meganeura is a giant dragonfly that could fly at more than 30 km/h and lived from the Carboniferous to the Permian.

In 1940, traces of this ancient insect (now extinct) were first observed in Oklahoma, in the southern United States. It is a fossil of the largest ever discovered wing of this insect that has been found, 275 million years old.
