After 21 years of loyal service, Naughty Dog is losing one of its iconic members, Josh Scherr, who is moving on. He worked on the Jak and Daxter and Uncharted sagas or The Last of Us 2.
Another great talent from Naughty Dog has decided to turn the page. This is Josh Scherr, cinematic animator, who has been a centerpiece of all the studio’s games since Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy in 2001.
Josh Scherr and Naughty Dog are breaking up
After Christophe Balestra or Bruce Straley, Naughty therefore loses Josh Scherr who explained himself on his personal Twitter account.
When I was a kid, making video games was my hobby. I would never have imagined creating them for the purpose of earning a living, and even less within a studio like Naughty Dog. Last week, after 21 years and having helped launch 10 games, I said goodbye to my friends and colleagues at the kennel. To all my amazing colleagues over the years: I am so grateful for your inspiration, support and trust. Thank you for putting up with my flaws, forgiving my mistakes, and giving me opportunities to grow. You have all made these 21 years memorable. We had fun.
I will miss The Dogs dearly, but there will come a time when I will be able to play a Naughty Dog game knowing very little beforehand. And they do amazing stuff. Seriously, URNOT E. As for me? It’s been a blast, but it’s time for a fresh start. I’ll tell you more soon.
A very talented animator… but also a screenwriter
Josh Scherr is above all an expert in animation. But as he points out, he was able to evolve thanks to Naughty Dog. He co-wrote Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. He will also have had time to leave his mark on The Last of Us 2 by being credited as a narrative designer and screenwriter.
