Square Enix this week announced Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion, a remaster of the 2007 PlayStation Portable RPG. A comparison video uses game scenes from the original to show what has happened technically in the course of the new edition.

What was already circulating in the form of rumors in the run-up to the anniversary event for the 25th birthday of “Final Fantasy VII” was also officially confirmed during the live stream.

The developers at Square Enix are working on a remaster of the role-playing game “Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII”, which was released in 2007 (Japan) and 2008 (North America & Europe) for the PlayStation Portable. The new edition will be subtitled “Reunion” and, according to official information, will receive various technical and playful improvements – including a revised user interface or a display in smooth 60 frames per second.

One user took the trouble to compare the scenes from the first Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion trailer with those of the PSP original, giving you an idea of what’s happening technically.

These improvements are waiting for you

The story of “Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII” will not change in the course of the technically revamped new edition. You still take on the role of protagonist Zack Fair and experience a storyline that predates the events of 1997’s original Final Fantasy VII. You find yourself in a conflict between the mega-corporation Shinra on the one hand and the people of Wutai on the other and encounter various old acquaintances such as Sephiroth or Aerith Gainsborough on your adventures.

Of course, 60FPS support isn’t the only improvement offered as part of the remaster. In addition, those responsible at Square Enix promise a newly recorded soundtrack, a complete dubbing of the dialogues or a completely revised graphics. “Enjoy an even more beautiful and accessible Crisis Core that goes far beyond a simple HD remaster,” the company says.
