On June 20, the China Earthquake Networks officially determined:At 09:05 on June 20, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 occurred in Hualien County, Taiwan, China, with a focal depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter was located on the island, 153 kilometers away from Taipei City.

According to reports, the earthquake that occurred in Hualien at 9:50 was felt by almost the whole Taiwan. At present, there has been no report of the disaster from the fire station. The sudden earthquake caused panic among local residents.

Chen Guochang, director of the Earthquake Prediction Center, said that the main cause of earthquakes is the sea basin, and it is a common phenomenon for earthquakes of magnitude 6 or above in the sea basin. Every year, there are earthquakes with a magnitude of 6 or above, but this year, earthquakes are indeed more frequent.
