iFixit dismantled the MacBook Air M2 – it does not have a cooling system, but there is an accelerometer

A traditional video of the analysis of the new MacBook Air by iFixit specialists has been released on YouTube.

Earlier MacBook Air with M2 processor dismantled YouTube blogger Max Tech – in the base model with 256 GB there was only one SSD, iFixit representatives also confirmed this. Instead of two 128GB NAND chips like the previous generation 256GB MacBook Air M1, the new laptop has a single 256GB NAND flash chip.

The MacBook Air M2 with 256GB NAND shows a 30-50% reduction in SSD speed compared to the previous generation MacBook Air with two 128GB NAND chips. However, Apple, despite the results of testing, announced “even more” overall real-world performance of the laptop.

Also, the analysis of iFixit showed the presence of an accelerometer on the motherboard – what it is for is not yet clear. At the same time, experts did not find a cooler that would cool the processor when heated.

Like the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, the M2-based MacBook Air has the battery attached to the case with adhesive tape – you can remove the battery by pulling on a special tab. The new MacBook Air received a battery capacity of 52.6 Wh – compared to 49.9 Wh in the M1 version.

All ports on the MacBook Air, with the exception of the SSD and the M2 chip (soldered to the board), are modular and can be replaced if necessary.
