The AirTag has continued its merry way in a certain discretion since its launch in the spring of 2021. So admittedly, the little white tag is still the subject of controversy to which Apple is trying to respond with software updates – and an Android app not totally satisfying — but the tracker seems to be finding its audience.
It must be said that the little contraption is extremely effective thanks to the support of Apple’s Locate network, which is very dense. And it is also very practical with its format and its discretion.
Ming-Chi Kuo believes today in a tweet that shipments of the device were 20 million units in 2021, and that they will be 35 million this year. The analyst writes that if shipments continue to increase, Apple could develop a second generation.
What could Apple add for this future generation? Improved battery management? This greatly exceeds the year promised by the manufacturer. By adding a key ring loop? It would be throwing an entire ecosystem of accessories in the trash… We would vote for a bank card type format so that we can slip an AirTag easily into a wallet.
