In 3D Center’s latest analysis of graphics card prices in Germany and Austria, it turned out that the average street price of RDNA2 GPUs is below the list price (MSRP) for the first time, and by eight percent. The GPUs of the Geforce RTX 30 series are also moving towards the RRP.

The price exaggeration in the graphics card segment seems to have finally come to an end – at least for graphics cards from AMD’s RDNA2 GPUs for the time being. According to current information from 3dcenter.org, such devices in Germany and Austria are on average 8 percent below the list price. The availability of the Radeon RX 6800 XT, which is difficult to obtain in 2021, is said to have improved significantly, so that it is available for an increasingly acceptable price.

The first graphics cards are priced below RRP

Nvidia’s Ampere cards also continue to fall and, on average, are just 2 percent above the RRP. That’s a four percent decrease from the end of May. However, it shouldn’t be too long before the Geforce RTX 30 series cards meet the same fate as AMD’s RDNA2 GPUs. These price drops are not without reason, but are largely related to the latest events in the crypto market. Ethereum mining is currently not profitable due to the fall in value of the cryptocurrency, which is why many miners want to get rid of their mining equipment in the form of GPUs and thus expand the offer on the used market.

According to 3dcenter.org, the fall in prices could slow down somewhat in the near future, since the poor euro/dollar exchange rate means a price premium of around 15 percent for European retailers, which consequently has to be passed on to customers. The graphics cards that are currently available below the list price include the Radeon RX 6500 XT, 6600 and 6900 XT as well as the Geforce RTX 3090 Ti and 3080 Ti from Nvidia.

Market check: What about graphics cards, CPUs and DDR5 RAM in June?

Price exaggerations in the double-digit percentage range can only be found with Nvidia’s entry-level models, the Geforce RTX 3050 and 3050 Ti, as well as with the Geforce RTX 3060, while AMD’s graphics cards have now said goodbye to this phenomenon. It will be exciting to see how the prices will develop as soon as the next architectures from AMD and Nvidia and thus new products are concrete with RDNA3 and Ada/Lovelace.
