All variations of Call of Duty have had problems with cheaters for a long time. The whole thing is to be improved through ever new measures and improved techniques as well as bans. Now cheaters even have their guns taken away.
Activision isn’t lazy about nagging cheaters should they ever be discovered. In addition to over 180,000 newly issued bans, new measures are always being used to protect legitimate players from cheaters ruining their game. For example, there was a shield that was supposed to prevent critical damage from being dealt out, or a camouflage technique that made regular players and their noises invisible or inaudible to the cheater.
Now a new variant is used and it is no less original, that’s what it says in one new community Q&A described. If a cheater is discovered, their weapons are simply taken away from them – including their fists. Wouldn’t it be easier to kick such players straight away? Certainly yes, but Activision is pursuing a goal with this “damage reduction” – namely to analyze data from the cheaters without affecting other players during this time.
The measures seem to be having an effect, because apparently the cheater reports have decreased significantly after the introduction of these damage-reducing measures. On the one hand, because the bans continue to happily continue, on the other hand, of course, because regular players no longer feel so bothered. The RICOCHET anti-cheat initiative seems to be finally taking hold. An end to the fight should not be in sight, after all, cheaters are always coming up with new ways and means.
