Microsoft has offered its security tools in Defender to companies, but now they are also launching the service to private users. However, it is still based on the same technical platform as the enterprise version.
The functionality itself differs slightly depending on the platform used, but Defender for Android has protection against malware and can scan for viruses and malicious apps. The service is now available for iOS, Android, Windows and Mac OS, and can thus offer a centralized overview for managing and monitoring antivirus protection between different devices. It also offers recommendations on how to improve security for users’ data and devices, even though that feature so far only covers devices with Mac OS and Windows.
All that is required is that the user has an active Microsoft 365 subscription either for individual use or the family version, while the app itself is free.
