Year on year, droughts and climate change have led many boatbuilders in southern Iraq to lose their livelihoods and their ancient way of life. Jawad Kadhim, a boatbuilder from Huwair (80km north of Basra) is one of many boat builders who have been forced to sacrifice their profession and become general carpenters.
