Since the release of the final season of Game of Thrones in 2019, a wide variety of prequel projects for the HBO series have been revealed. But now there is a surprising innovation: A sequel is supposed to play AFTER the end of the series – and bring back Kit Harington as Jon Snow.
Game of Thrones is over, the final season has slammed the Book of Westeros – at least that’s what has been thought since the rather… mixed reception series finale in May 2019. That the upcoming HBO series House of the Dragon long before the events of Game of Thrones will play pretty much confirmed that assumption: no story after the finale. Yet The Hollywood Reporters should have come across explosive information that speaks of something completely different.
Jon Snow getting spin-off, story after Game of Thrones series finale
A sequel to Game of Thrones is said to be in the pipeline. This live-action series is a spin-off that will focus entirely on Jon Snow, one of the main protagonists of the original fantasy series. Actor Kit Harington will reprise his role as Ned Stark’s son, long ostracized as a bastard. Most recently, Harington appeared in the 2021 Marvel film Eternals. It is not yet known at this point whether other Stark characters such as Arya or Sansa will also return.

The series represents a true first – there are other known spin-offs besides House of the Dragon, but they will all be prequels, set before the events of the original Game of Thrones series. Among other things, an adaptation of the “Dunk and Egg” hedge knight short stories by George RR Martin
What happened to Jon Snow? (Spoiler)
The last season of Game of Thrones revolved around Jon’s realization that his real name is Aegon Targaryen – that is, alongside Daenerys, a contender for the Iron Throne. Although he loved Daenerys, he eventually murdered her for the good of the country in the finale and was banished from the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros for doing so. Eventually he was seen wandering to new shores beyond the ruined wall to the north with the Free Folk (Wildlings).
How the story continues at this point is accordingly a gigantic question mark. Because this scenario goes beyond the books of George RR Martin even more than the final season of Game of Thrones.
