IT House June 21 news, Meta CEO Zuckerberg today showed several new VR prototypes, bringing new heights in terms of resolution, brightness, and size that cannot be achieved by existing devices.
The first prototype device is called “Butterscotch(Butterscotch)”, which highlights an increased pixel count, enabling what the team calls “Retina resolution.” The prototype achieved a resolution of 55px/deg,2.5 times that of Quest 2which allows users with 20/20 vision to clearly read the smallest letters on the eye chart.
The second prototype is called “Half Dome”, the prototype uses eye-tracking and zoom optics to give virtual scenes a natural depth of field as the user shifts their gaze from a nearby object to a distant one.
The third prototype is “Starbursts”, which may be the first VR headset to support HDR. Starburst can be astonishingly bright 20000 nits.
The last prototype shown was “Holocake 2”, an already working VR headset that Meta has built so farthinnest and lightestof VR headsets. The goal in the future is to switch to holographic lenses, thereby further reducing the thickness of the device.
IT House understands that Meta is developing two VR product lines — one affordable and aimed at consumers; the other aimed at professionals, using cutting-edge technology. Officials say it will take a few years for the aforementioned prototype to hit the market.
