Apple increased its smartphone market share in China thanks to record sales of the iPhone 13, despite an overall decline in consumer demand in the country in 2022.
During China’s annual 6.18 Online Festival in June alone, 14 million smartphones were sold, down 25% from last year, according to Strategy Analytics.
Apple surpassed its competitors by selling almost 7 million iPhones. The company ranked first in terms of revenue share across all major trading platforms in the country.
The market in China also reflects a global trend: according to a recent study by Canalys, global smartphone shipments fell 9% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2022. Nevertheless, Apple’s market share reached 17%, up 3% year on year. Chinese suppliers Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo saw their market share drop to 14%, 10% and 9% respectively.
Apple’s upcoming iPhone 14 series smartphones are also expected to be in high demand, which will positively impact the company’s revenue as a whole.
