Recently, “League of Legends” player Faker Lee Sang-hyuk and his T1 team have prosecuted some people who insulted malicious messages. The lawsuit was filed in South Korea on July 19.
Lawyers Park Ji-won and Lo You-hyun, legal representatives of Faker, said in an interview: “We will prosecute those who repeatedly and habitually post malicious comments above a certain number,Because Faker believes that these people need to be severely sanctioned, there is currently no intention to properly handle or negotiate with the defendants.“
When asked what kind of conduct might be sued, lawyers said overly specific descriptions could reveal the identities of the litigants. “For example, someone slandered Faker’s mother and posted indecent images to her.”
Regarding this matter, the representative of T1 emphasized: “As a professional player, the objective evaluation of the player’s performance and career by fans is what professional players must bear. However,Unwarranted criticism and personal attacks are not acceptable.“
T1 stated in the lawsuit that in the future, the legal person will maintain continuous monitoring of various posts by T1 players, including Faker, to “create a healthy and mature e-sports culture.”
Under South Korea’s Insulting Law, offenders face a fine of 1 million to 2 million won (about 5,100 yuan to 10,200 yuan) if found guilty. However, T1’s legal team said: “Because these people are very malicious and constantly insult Faker, we believe that the sentence will be harsher than a simple 1-2 million won fine.”
At present, lawyers for the team declined to say how many people were charged in the lawsuit, except that “it’s a small group,” and a “small number” of defendants had previously been warned to stop commenting in this way.
