Hired by Naughty Dog in 1999, Bruce Straley made his debut as an artist on Crash Team Racing and on the Jak and Daxter trilogy before occupying the role of co-artistic director on the first Uncharted. With Uncharted 2, Bruce Straley is promoted to director, a role he will then occupy on The Last of Us then Uncharted 4, always in tandem with his creative director Neil Druckmann. After having chained these three projects and received countless awards, Bruce Straley had decided to take a long vacation instead of leaving immediately on The Last of Us Part II. In September 2017, the director finally decided not to resume his activities within the Californian studio and had not been talked about professionally for all these years.
Wildflower Interactive’s announcement therefore serves as a huge event, especially as the studio is already hard at work on its first game.”We are working on something that I have never played before. And we have an exciting partner who supports what we do and who will help us reach as many people as possible.“, notes Bruce Straley, who is accompanied in his adventure by artists, designers and animators who have worked on titles such as Call of Duty, The Pathless, Abzû, Astroneer or Kena: Bridge of Spirits and who for some have also gone through Naughty Dog. Jobs from the studio suggest that the game is developed with the Unreal Engine.
“In 2017, I left the industry not being sure that I still wanted to make games. But the further I got away, the more I kept thinking about this medium, and all that was left to do and all that I still wanted to do. And this idea continued to follow me. So I invited some friends over and we started prototyping. And the idea started to get good. She started to get excited again. And I realized that I needed to make this game. But if I have to make this game, it means I have to build a team. And if I’m building a team, I have to build a business. And, if we gotta do it, we gotta do it the right way“, comments Bruce Straley in the studio’s announcement video.
