To all appearances, Sony Interactive Entertainment officials may indeed have decided to stop selling PlayStation Plus cards through retail outlets. According to the VGC, this is at least indicated by the information from various countries.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 22, 2022, the new three-stage version of PlayStation Plus will also be launched in Germany. We have all the other details about the content offered, the different levels and the prices here summarized for you.

After the rumor reached us a few weeks ago that Sony Interactive Entertainment executives may have decided to stop selling PlayStation Plus cards through retail outlets, the indications now seem to be growing. As Videogames Chronicle reports, there are still a few PlayStation Plus cards in US retail stores, but these are the subscription cards for the old PlayStation Plus service.

At Walmart and Amazon, however, the PlayStation Plus cards have completely disappeared from the range.

A similar picture emerged from research in the UK. While retail chain Currys is still selling the last stock of PlayStation Plus cards, these have been removed from other major retailers such as Amazon, Game, Smyths and Argos. Only cards that allow players to top up their balance in the PlayStation Store are sold here.

Speaking of the PlayStation Store: The shop on the official Sony website in Great Britain provided another indication of the possible end of the PlayStation Plus cards. If you want to buy a PlayStation Plus subscription here, you will no longer be referred to shops that sell the corresponding cards. Instead, you will be automatically redirected to the PlayStation Store, where PlayStation Plus subscriptions with different terms can be purchased.

It is speculated that the introduction of the new three-tier model could have led to the cards being phased out in retail as the tiers, with their different maturities, would each require different cards, which could confuse customers. An official statement from Sony Interactive Entertainment on this subject is still pending.
