time to celebrate! Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds, known worldwide under the acronym PUBG, is already in its fifth year of existence. A round anniversary that publisher Krafton would like to celebrate with you. Are you in a raffle mood?
PUBG is one of those games that you can’t ignore simply because it’s deeply rooted in pop culture. It is widely considered to be the Grandmother of the battle royal genre. And even this genre designation is in turn a nod to another milestone in pop culture. Because the name is inspired by the Japanese film “Battle Royale”.
After a five-year success story, you can splurge on a few numbers, which PUBG has really earned. Here are a few facts:
- 75 million copies of the game can be found worldwide on PCs and consoles (as of the end of 2021)
- The mobile version can look back on a whopping billion downloads
- Overall, the free-2-play game has generated over $13 billion in revenue
An incredible success that the inventor of PUBG, namely Brendan Greene, certainly did not expect in this form. Incidentally, Greene is also the name-giving unknown player (Player Unknown), who set a monument with PUBG.
And the following example shows how important PUBG is in the esports community: Only recently, on Sunday, June 19, 2022, the final of the PUBG Nations Cup in Bangkok across the stage (see also the video above). Although we kept our fingers crossed for the German team, the championship title and the prize money of 100,000 US dollars went to Great Britain. But hey: the boys fought well, they deserve the win, congratulations and we’ll flatten them next time. (Don’t give up.) Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
Speaking of chicken: you surely want to win something, don’t you? Then let’s get to work!
I want to win! What should I do?
Krafton has given us four prize packages to celebrate PUBG’s 5th anniversary. Namely this one:
The content in detail:
- Community plush chicken
- Vinyl Record
- cardboard cutout
- Confetti, balloons – ready to celebrate!
By the way: The chicken was designed by the winner of a fan art contest. You don’t find that easily in stores. The whole thing comes in a pretty, decorative box.
And to enter the competition, all you have to do is answer one simple question. It reads: Brendan Greene is the inventor of PUBG and the actual PlayerUnknown. But which country does the man actually come from?
a) It’s clear, the name is clearly American. So he’s from the US.
b) As the name Greene suggests, he comes from the Emerald Isle, ie Ireland.
c) The name is deceptive! Brendan Greene is originally from Brazil.
d) Well, nobody expected that: He was born and raised in South Korea.
