YouTube blogger RandomGaminginHD talked about the successful experience of running modern AAA-level games on a cheap computer with an outdated video card. He tested the experiment on titles such as Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite.

RandomGaminginHD used a relatively old computer with a GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card, which is considered almost unsuitable for full-fledged gaming these days, as it is unable to run top games even at medium quality settings. The idea of the blog was to select the optimal resolution and manually adjust the graphics settings of each game to get the highest possible image quality and frame rate.

The blogger took an old 21-inch monitor with a resolution of no more than Full HD, but chose XGA (1024 × 768 pixels) in games. Reducing the resolution sometimes almost doubled the frame rate, that is, the detail suffered a little, but the picture became smoother and the gameplay much more comfortable. On a small monitor, a 768p image looks much better than on a large one, due to the higher graphics density.

RandomGaminginHD manually chose graphics settings in games somewhere between medium and low, and as a result achieved the following frame rate: Cyberpunk 2077 – 55 FPS, Elden Ring – 58 FPS, Forza Horizon 5 – 75 FPS, Halo Infinite – 55 FPS. With a small budget, this is almost the only option to play modern games. Of course, you will not get pleasure from beautiful graphics, but it is quite possible to appreciate the plot, and sometimes more is not required.
