Pokémon fans have wanted it for a long time, now the look is changing. (Image source: Game Freak)

The Pokémon games always cause hot controversy about their graphics and style. Most of the criticism is that nothing changes. Now Pokémon Crimson & Crimson seems to be changing. You can find out what could be behind it here.

What’s the deal with the new Pokémon style?

The first trailers for Pokémon Crimson & Crimson look promising. But have you ever wondered why visual style is so different from the previous games? Especially with the faces of the characters, but also the general look, this becomes clear:

Pokémon Crimson & Crimson: Second trailer names release date

The reason for the changes could be a change in personnel. James Turner, who had designed some Pokémon since 2010 and was art director for Pokémon Sword and Shield no longer works for Game Freak. In April 2022, he announced that he had founded his own development studio called All Possible Futures. There he is currently working with his team on a game called The Plucky Squire. In this you change between 2D and 3D and controls cute picture book characters through colorful platformer levels. Publisher is none other than Devolver Digital.

A first trailer can be seen here:

Anyway, James Turner’s absence could be a reason why Pokémon Crimson & Crimson is stylistically in another direction developed. And Turner isn’t the first employee to leave Game Freak.

Pokémon legend leaves Game Freak

Turner isn’t the only major Game Freak developer to leave the company in recent times. Also veteran Junichi Masuda left Game Freak on June 1, 2022 to instead strengthen the brand at The Pokémon Company.

Masuda is one of the founding members of Game Freak. We have him to thank for the music and sounds of the first generations. He continued to contribute music for later games and designed the Hoenn region, for example. However, he was no longer involved in newer games such as Pokémon Sword & Shield or Pokémon Legends: Arceus. According to his own statements, he wants younger developers leave the controls.
