Apple has published a detailed report on the impact of its ecosystem of products and services on human health, from helping users track personal health indicators to supporting medical research.

“We truly believe that technology can play a role in improving the health of users and encourage people to live healthier lives. We’re excited about the many ways users are benefiting from our health and fitness features, and how third-party developers, institutions and organizations are using Apple technology to advance healthcare and science,” said Apple COO Jeff Williams.

The document consists of two main sections, the first of which is dedicated to providing users with easy access to their own health data, as well as fitness features that help maintain or improve their physical condition. Apple highlights its commitment to privacy with secure health data, the Apple Watch’s role in health monitoring, and the HealthKit framework that opens up an ecosystem to third-party apps.

With the release of iOS 16 and watchOS 9 this fall, new health features will become available to users, including medication monitoring, atrial fibrillation history, and sleep stage monitoring.

The second section of the report shows how Apple’s healthcare initiative is integrating with the medical community, including the ResearchKit features and the Apple Research app.

The company also provided a number of examples of developers and organizations using Apple’s health-related features and services to innovate.
