Here’s a clip where someone has fitted one of Unitree’s robot dogs with an automatic carbine, something that feels like quite a dystopian development for the future.
According to Vice, the clip was created by Alex Atamanov, the founder of the American company Hoversurf, a company that develops drones for passenger transport. The video does not show whether either the dog or the drone is autonomous. This is probably not the case, but the whole thing is probably remotely controlled by someone behind the camera.
Providing robots with weapons that could be used to harm humans could be considered a violation of Asimov’s so – called “robot laws”. However, we have seen robots and other autonomous vehicles equipped with weapons several times before, you will find some examples in the linked articles below. Probably the world leaders probably care less about Asimov’s robot laws if “killer robots” can somehow give them advantages in different types of warfare.
All the people who laughed off the “worrywarts” years ago for freaking out about the Funny Dancing Robot Dogs ™ should be forced to watch this video once a day for the remainder of the year. pic.twitter.com/WBIrlGah3w
