After it was confirmed a few days ago that Nintendo would not be appearing at Gamescom 2022 this year, the next heavyweight in the video game industry has now canceled. Sony Interactive Entertainment will also not be part of the game in 2022.
After the COVID-19 pandemic meant that Gamescom could only take place in a digital format for the past two years, Europe’s leading trade fair for video games is returning to the public in 2022.
However, in recent weeks it has become apparent that visitors will have to do without various heavyweights in the video game industry this year. Activision Blizzard, Nintendo and Take-Two Interactive, for example, confirmed that the companies will not be involved this year. They are now joined by another prominent publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Without going into more detail about the reasons, the group confirmed to GamesWirtschaft that it would not be present at Gamescom 2022.

Therefore, visitors should not expect announcements or the presentation of upcoming highlights such as “God of War: Ragnarök” or PlayStation VR2. But which well-known publishers will actively support Gamescom 2022 and be represented with their own stand? According to those responsible for the Cologne trade fair, no fewer than 250 companies from all over the world will be represented this year. The best-known names include THQ Nordic, Koch Media and Bandai Namco Entertainment.
According to previously unconfirmed reports, Microsoft and Xbox are also planning a major appearance at Gamescom 2022. This was pointed out by Windows Central author and industry insider Jez Corden in a podcast in early May. An official confirmation from the Redmond software giant is still pending.
