In 2020, western studio Sucker Punch surprised with an authentic samurai game set in feudal Japan. So it wouldn’t be a surprise if the hit open-world game got a sequel anytime soon. A look at the PlayStation studio’s current job list even suggests a Ghost of Tsushima 2.
Is Sucker Punch working on Ghost of Tsushima 2?
Quite a few job postings have come together on Sucker Punch’s official website recently. Could these provide a clue as to what PlayStation Studio is working on next?
The job descriptions suggest at least an open world game with melee and stealth mechanics there. The first thing that comes to mind when hearing these words is Ghost of Tsushima.
In detail: The development team is looking for a technical combat designer, senior combat designer, encounter designer and writer, among others.
- From the Technical Combat Designer, in particular the development of new combat systems expected. In addition, the balance between “player skills, combat actions and progress items” is important. (Source: sucker Punch)
- The Senior Combat Designer aims to “create a coherent and dense combat experience.” The words “Attack and Parry Time” such as “Counting Frames” indicate a melee system. (Source: sucker Punch)
- Among other things, the encounter designer is required to create “interesting and varied encounters in one Open world game with a special emphasis on melee combat and stealth” to deliver. (Source: sucker Punch)
- The writer must create “compelling, character-driven stories in an open-world game” and “emotional stories, unforgettable characters and strong dialogue” can write. (Source: sucker Punch)
For the positions of Technical Combat Designer and Senior Combat Designer, the requirement also applies: “You have to played previous Sucker Punch titles and have an understanding of the core gameplay.”
Sucker Punch has previously worked on Sly Cooper, Infamous and Ghost of Tsushima. Given the tasks involved, a Ghost of Tsushima 2 is probably the most likely… right?
Back to basics: Sly 5 in development?
Alongside Ghost of Tsushima, the Sly series has also combined stealth gameplay with melee combat. Sucker Punch might be working on one new Sly game with an open world and a more complex combat system? Fans of the thieving raccoon would certainly be pleased.
Rumor has it that Sly 5 is already in the works, but with a new development team. The fourth part was no longer created by Sucker Punch, but by Sanzaru Games.
