On June 16, Wu Kai, the chief scientist of CATL, said at the 2022 World Power Battery Conference that CATL will soon release CTP (high-efficiency group) 3.0 batteries, which are Kirin batteries.
Wu Kai said that Kirin batteries have four major advantages:
First, high safety: Kirin battery adds a water-cooled sheet in the middle of the two cells to reduce the heat conduction of the two adjacent cells and prevent thermal runaway;
The second is that it can meet high-voltage fast charging. 4C charging is not difficult, and it can be seen in the market next year;
The third is to greatly improve the battery life, because the water-cooled sheet has a buffering effect;
Fourth, the specific energy is high, and the Kirin battery can improve the utilization of space,The energy density of the lithium iron phosphate system is 160wh/kg, and the ternary high nickel can reach 250wh/kg, which is 13% more power than the 4680 battery.
The 4680 battery is Tesla’s third-generation battery product. It was announced last year with a single energy density of about 300Wh/kg and a battery pack energy density of 217Wh/kg. At that time, Tesla claimed that the energy of the 4680 battery increased by 5 times, the cruising range of the whole vehicle increased by 16%, the power was increased by 6 times compared with the battery with tabs, and the power output was increased by 6 times.
IT House learned that at the online performance conference held by CATL in early May, Zeng Yuqun, chairman of CATL, said that it plans to officially release Kirin batteries in the second quarter of this year. At the same time, CATL has also put forward a new goal to mass-produce batteries that meet the requirements of no thermal diffusion and have a cruising range of 1,000km in 2023, and is expected to mass-produce a battery-chassis combination using CTC technology in 2025. The two most important components of an electric vehicle are integrated into one. Wu Kai mentioned that “4C charging is not difficult, and it can be seen in the market next year”, indicating that Kirin batteries will not be mass-produced until next year.
