Samsung is not expected to release a Galaxy S22 FE this year. In a context of shortage, the firm would have decided to allocate the chips intended for the smartphone to the production of the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Despite this setback, the range would make its big comeback next year.
Samsung would have decided to give up on the Galaxy S22 FE (Fan Edition). According to information from The Elec, a South Korean media specializing in the industry, the manufacturer has officially abandoned the project.
The report corroborates information shared by SamMobile, a site dedicated to Samsung products, in June. Citing several sources familiar with the issue, the media outlet claimed that the manufacturer was considering abandoning the S22 FE in view of the disappointing sales figures of the previous model, the S21 FE. Launched in early 2022, the smartphone was penalized by its late release.

Samsung would have preferred the Galaxy S22 Ultra to the S22 FE
According to The Elec, Samsung was forced to bury the S22 FE because of shortage of computer chips. At a time when semiconductors remain a rare commodity, the Seoul giant was forced to choose between the S22 FE and the Galaxy S22 Ultra, whose sales would be excellent. The brand would have sold up to 10 million units in the first half.
The chips initially reserved for the S22 FE will be allocated to the production of the high-end smartphone. The phone was to be powered by the same SoC as the S22 Ultra, namely the Exynos 2200. To overcome the shortage, the brand would have considered for a time turning to a Mediatek chip.
Rather than launching a new affordable smartphone on the market, Samsung would have finally chosen to inflate stock S22 Ultra available. By recovering the chips intended for the S22 FE, Samsung hopes to put more S22 Ultra on sale and reap more profits.
It is not uncommon for manufacturers to make similar decisions since the semiconductor industry has developed severe deficiencies. It is also because of the shortage of chips that the S21 FE has been postponed for several months. Originally, Samsung planned to manufacture 3 million Galaxy S22 FE by the end of the year, reveals The Elec.
A Galaxy S23 FE expected in 2023
Nevertheless, Samsung does not completely bury the range. Aware of the interest of buyers for affordable models, the world number 1 would have planned to launch a Galaxy S23 FE in the course of next year. Obviously, Samsung is always free to revise its plans until then. As its name suggests, the device promises to be close to the future Galaxy S23, the release of which is not expected before February 2023.
