IT House July 23 news, the US Department of Justice (DoJ) and the UK Home Office announced in a recent joint press release that the US and the UK have signed a data access agreement,The agreement would allow law enforcement agencies in each country to request user internet data from the other.
Created in 2019 as the CLOUD Act, the agreement allows countries to fight serious crimes including terrorism, child abuse and cybercrime,Effective October 3, 2022.
“The data access agreement will allow us to more quickly access service provider data in both countries, including information and evidence held in connection with the prevention, detection, investigation or prosecution of serious crimes,” the DOJ said.
IT House understands that the plan was first proposed in 2017, and the Home Office said at the time that it aimed to develop a bilateral agreement to remove some of these legal obstacles and still “provide strict privacy protections for citizens”, Australia Also joined the CLOUD Act late last year.
