Apple space drama For All Mankind announced today that the show has officially been renewed for a 4th season. While rumors of an extension have been circulating for some time now, the official news just broke as part of the San Diego Comic-Con For All Mankind panel. .
The critically acclaimed alternate reality sci-fi series is currently streaming its third season on the Apple TV+ streaming service.
For All Mankind was one of Apple’s launch shows for TV+, debuting on November 1, 2019. At the time, the executive producer was Ronald. D. Moore said that they presented Apple with a planned seven-season arc.
Given the strong critical response and the growing audience, it is possible that this initial plan will materialize. The premise of the show depends on an alternate reality timeline where Russia defeated America in a space race to the moon in 1969; this forces the US to continue to invest in NASA and establish a base on the moon.
So far, each season has seen a time jump of about ten years. In the third season currently airing, the show is set in the 90s and its ambition is to occupy Mars. Continuing this trend, the showrunners have confirmed that Season 4 will jump forward another decade, with the story set in the 2000s, with the series entering the (alternate reality) 21st century.
Season 4 will begin production next month. Viewers can expect the fourth season to release sometime in 2023.
Apple TV+ is hosting several panels at Comic-Con, including a sneak peek at upcoming seasons of Foundation, Mythic Quest, and SEE. Severance hosted his panel yesterday and even hosted an impressive visitor retreat.
