The Film Distributor Bulletin reports that the American company IMAX quietly left Russia. However, the correspondents of the publication failed to confirm unconfirmed information through their sources.

The company did not officially announce its departure. Representatives in the country did not respond to a request from the Film Distributor Bulletins.

For the first time, information that IMAX stopped doing business in Russia appeared in the Telegram channel “Camera, ax!”, Which is run by the author of the Kommersant newspaper Anna Afanasyeva. The latter reports that since June 1, all employees of the domestic office have been reduced by agreement of the parties.

Member of the Council of the Association of Cinema Owners Roman Isaev confirmedthat IMAX left the Russian market on June 1.

“The last day of her official representation and work here was May 31. All employees were fired, respectively, the management of the corporation, represented by the vice president for Eastern Europe, India and the Middle East, who was based in Moscow, moved to London.

Answering the question of how the departure of the corporation will affect the domestic cinema industry, Isaev expressed the opinion that the only option for operators of IMAX halls is to demonstrate other content.

According to financial statements, in the first quarter of 2022, the debt of an American corporation in Russia reached $6.9 million. As a precautionary measure, IMAX has formed a special financial reserve, which almost completely covers accounts receivable in the domestic market.
