Tokyo Olympic champion Emmanuel Korir of Kenya claimed a maiden world title in the 800m as Gudaf Tsegay took gold in a tactical 5,000m at the world athletic championships in Eugene in the US state of Oregon on Saturday. Korir took off in the final stages of the men’s 800m to clock a season-best 1 minute 43.71 seconds. The Kenyan was followed by Algeria’s Damel Sedjati, whose fast finish gave him a .14 edge over the 1:44.28 of Canada’s Marco Arop, who had to settle for bronze after leading for most of the race.
