While E3 was absent again this year, the Summer Game Fest struggled to convince. His house show was far below the expectations of the players and his fragmented schedule still does not appeal. However, the public was there this year and made the event a success. According to Geoff Keighley, organizer of the Summer Game Fest, more than 3.5 million simultaneous spectators gathered on June 9.
On Twitter, the star video game host is smiling. His show has indeed achieved its best performance since its creation and has therefore reached new records. And if the Summer Game Fest evening exceeds 3.5 million spectators, the event as a whole attracted more than 27 million viewers. A figure up 8% compared to 2021 according to published data.
At the same time, twitter conversations around the Summer Game Fest have doubled this year compared to 2021. Even the #TheGameAwards, Geoff Keighley’s other event, had the wind in its sails with 69% more use over the period. Naturally the two events are quite distinct, but the general public seems to bring them together around their star host. A host who has already confirmed that the success was more than enough to return in 2023 with a new formula. Next year, the Summer Game Fest will indeed offer a physical event in addition to its traditional digital show!
