We believe it when we hear it.
“Phenomenal!”, “The critics will lose it!” The people behind the 2023 star-studded Super Mario movie have done their best to whip up the hype for Chris Pratt in the role of Mario.
Now it’s Pratt himself who is starting the hype machinery. For Variety he feels compelled to emphasize that this is an animated film, and thus we do not get Pratt in the style of a plumber.
It’s an animated voiceover narrative. It’s not a live-action movie. I’m not gonna be wearing a plumber suit running all over.
Sin.
Pratt believes that his interpretation of Mario is “updated and different from anything you’ve heard in the Mario world before”. Charles Martinet has been making Mario’s voice ever since the Stone Age 1992, and it is deeply rooted in millions of gamer souls. That Chris Pratt claims “updates” this is a bold statement.
So far, we have nothing to go on, except the superlatives from Pratt and the filmmakers.
