Decidedly, Ubisoft seems to have easy cancellation: after having canceled four games including Splinter Cell VR and Ghost Recon Frontline and pushed back Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, the French publisher would have taken the decision not to continue the follow-up of Roller Champions. Released only two months ago, free-to-play therefore seems well on its way to already being sidelined.
A decision not so surprising?
We felt it a little coming with its many postponements and its lackluster launch, Roller Champions does not seem to have had the expected success. Despite a nice concept, free-to-play was sorely lacking in identity and the small community that was forged around the title was impatiently awaiting the arrival of real new content.
Unfortunately, it will be necessary to ignore potential additions: Jeff Grubb, a journalist renowned for his many indiscretions, said this weekend during a podcast on Xbox Erathat Roller Champions would be canceled after season 3, all while reading the message from a source. The game would therefore only have a few months left to live.
As of now, Ubisoft has yet to officially comment. However, Jeff Grubb was rarely wrong and we can quite easily believe in his words. To see if the French publisher will react in the coming days or if we will have to wait until the end of season 3 for an official communication.
Recently, Ubisoft said that Roller Champions worked better than Hyperscape. A finding that makes you smile when you know that the battle royale was quickly put on a drip, with very few active players. However, other free-to-play are still planned in the company’s roadmap, with The Division: Resurgence, Tom Clancy’s XDefiant and The Division: Heartland.
