An action-packed arcade racer in a massive package

Eight years after the brand’s last video game spin-off was released for consoles, it’s making a comeback in 2021 – and how! The makers have succeeded in recreating the look of the originals with great attention to detail. If you look closely, you can even see small inconsistencies like joints where the plastic was glued. A real feast for the eyes, especially for fans.

But the title is not only convincing visually, but also playfully. Those responsible have succeeded in realizing a very good driving experience that creates a wonderful balance between accessibility and aspiration. The arcade racing feeling is immediately fun, even if the subtleties of driving require a bit of time to get used to. The driving physics in particular can be a bit tricky, for example if you want to find out the right timing when driving through a loop. However, once you get the hang of it, you’ll whiz around the courses like a dervish and leave your competition behind.

Overall, Hot Wheels Unleashed is a really good arcade racing game that will give you hours of fun. The driving behavior in combination with the chaos that regularly erupts on the track is enormously entertaining and will tie genre fans in particular to the controller and won’t let go so quickly. But all of you who are only looking for uncomplicated fun will get their money’s worth here, because this underrated racing game can captivate both old and young car fans.
