Hidetaka Miyazaki, President of From Software, recently spoke about the new projects from the creators of Dark Souls and Elden Ring. Surprise: A project is said to be in the last phase of development.

Although From Software has been around for what feels like an eternity (the first game appeared with King’s Field in 1994), the Japanese produced their titles for a hardcore niche for a long time. That only changed when the then unknown Hidetaka Miyazaki was given the green light to take on Demon’s Souls, a project that internally had already been labeled as a failure.

The decision was spot on. Miyazaki had a surprise hit that he would follow up on two years later with Dark Souls (and create an entire sub-genre of action role-playing games along the way). This was followed by other top titles such as Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and most recently Elden Ring, with which From Software was able to inspire more and more players with the Souls formula and thanks to which every upcoming launch of a From Software game to the ever-bigger hype happening.

Miyazaki on upcoming projects

It is well known that after development is before development. Studios often work on at least two projects in parallel over long periods, so that the foundation for the next project has already been laid after one release. After the enormous success of Elden Ring, we are certainly not the only ones asking ourselves: What is From Software working on now? That’s exactly what Hidetaka Miyazaki recently discussed with the Japanese side 4gamers spoken (via Dualshockers).
