Windows 11 has released a new preview update that, among other things, is intended to fix a cause of crashes in numerous games. In addition, there should be fewer problems with wireless connections with the new version.

Microsoft has announced a new update for Windows 11 that aims to add some new features and fix bugs. However, the update with the ID number KB5014668 is currently only available in the preview channel, where it is being tested. An automatic installation, on the other hand, will only take place in three weeks: From July 12, KB5014668 will be distributed via Windows Update.

Crashes by XAudio

For some users, however, a (manual) installation could be worthwhile beforehand, because the update comes with some important bug fixes. Particularly important for gamers: Until now, games could crash when using Microsoft’s XAudio API. Well-known titles like The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 or Doom do this. KB5014668 should help here and ensure that the corresponding crashes are a thing of the past.

Another fix for games also affects video playback. According to Microsoft, under DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 it could happen that the playback of consecutive video clips caused problems. This problem should also be fixed with the new update.

Also exciting: BIOS update: AMD stutters under Windows 11 and 10 are a thing of the past

Aside from games, there are numerous other improvements with KB5014668. Among other things, problems with the update to Windows 11, with Bluetooth audio connections and with Wifi hotspots have been fixed. In addition, with the update, highlights such as public holidays and anniversaries are now automatically displayed in the search window.
