Fingerprints were found on the figurines of the Qin Mausoleum
According to CCTV news reports, the latest research results of the pottery figurines unearthed in the burial pit of K9901 Baixi figurines in the mausoleum of the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty show that fingerprint impressions were found on the supine figurine on the 28th.
No. 28 Baixi figurines were found in the middle of the burial pit K9901, near the eastern end of the cave. They were very badly damaged during excavation. They consisted of 72 fragments and 12 bags of residues, with no head or hands. Different from other more common standing or sitting terracotta figurines in the pit, the restored figurine No. 28 presents a supine posture, similar to a carp standing upright or leaning back. Cultural preservation experts temporarily call it “supine figurine”.
The repair of the lying figurines used materials such as foam and sandbags to assist in the matching, and epoxy resin was used for bonding. Due to the large cracks in the inner wall of the abdomen and back of the figurines, in order to ensure the safety of the repair and display of the figurines, the inner wall was reinforced with gauze and epoxy glue. At the same time, the cultural protection personnel chose epoxy resin glue and brick powder to complete the missing parts. Use scalpels, dental drills, sandpaper and other workers to repair the shape after the completion material is solidified.
Zhou Ping, deputy director of the Qin Shihuang Mausoleum Museum, said,The digital protection and restoration of the supine figurines, including the high-precision modeling records of the surface and geometry of the construction of cultural relics, etc. Through the observation and research on the traces of the No. 28 figurines, the cultural protection personnel found fingerprints. By comparing the fingerprint database, it can be seen that the craftsmen who made the No. 28 Baixi figurines should be teenagers.
