Codemasters and Electronic Arts Announce EA SPORTS F1 22 Driver Ratings

Codemasters and Electronic Arts, in partnership with Formula 1, today released the Driver Ratings for EA SPORTS F1 22. Filming took place in Baku and Canada with the 2022 driver line-up and the teammates came together for a guess the score challenge with cameras capturing every moment, including the reveal.

The dynamic ratings in the game’s My Team mode are updated every few races and reflect the action and drama on and off the track.

For the first time, Codemasters has changed the algorithm so that stats better reflect a driver’s current form and depend less on their past. Formula 1 experts Anthony Davidson, David Croft and Alex Jacques have also worked with the studio to go beyond just data and separate man and machine.

The starting day ratings will be compiled up to and including this year’s FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX DE MONACO 2022. The dynamic ratings are divided into four categories in addition to an overall rating:

  • Experience (EXP): This is based on the number of race starts a driver has completed over the course of their career.
  • Racing Skill (RAC): The driver’s ability to work through the field and finish the race higher than the starting position.
  • Awareness (AWA): The less time drivers spend in the steward’s room, the better. Real-world penalties affect the score in this category.
  • Pace (PAC): Favors those closest to the fastest qualifying and race lap times. A driver beating his teammate will also be counted.
  • Rating (RTG): The combination of the four previous ratings. This overall rating rises and falls throughout the season based on performance.

“Having become a staple of other EA SPORTS titles, our dynamic Driver Ratings continue to evoke driver emotion and it’s great to see the camaraderie and banter between teammates,” said Paul Jeal, F1 Senior Franchise Director at Codemasters. “Our new panel of F1 experts will be working closely with us to ensure F1 22 reflects what’s happening at the track and we know the updates will fuel even more discussion as the season progresses.”

The F1 22 Driver Ratings are a key element of My Team. New for 2022, it now features three starting positions: Newcomer, Midway Challenger, and Championship Contender, allowing players to choose to work their way up from the bottom or fight straight to victory.
