A few weeks after its launch integrating a play-to-earn component, the online action game Kritica Global is (re)launching this time on Steam, but without its blockchain-backed store.
As noted, the group Com2us set out to resurrect the online action game Kritika Online (after several successive closures and revivals in Korea and the West), but this time incorporating play-to-earn elements. This new version of the action game, renamed Kritika Global, includes an in-game currency system, Diamonds and Quartz, both convertible into crypto-assets on C2X (the blockchain platform of Com2uS) and can be used to purchase “special items” from the in-game store.
The game was launched on the official site in early June with its play-to-earn model… and Com2uS today also announces a launch on Steambut this time without the play-to-earn components – as we know, the group Valve officially refuses to distribute games with hybrid business models on its platform. By means of a press release, Com2uS nevertheless specifies that to “enjoy the full experience” of Kritika Global (with its play-to-earn elements, therefore), it will be necessary to download the version of the game available on the official site.
To encourage the hesitant to discover the game, especially on Steam, special events are organized in the game universe and the developer promises new content (a mode Siege War in which guilds compete for control of a castle).
Beyond the updates, why this new launch on Steam a few weeks after the official launch? The choice may surprise since the play-to-earn model was precisely to be the main attraction of the new version of Kritika and to distinguish it from previous ones, abandoned by player fault. We venture a hypothesis: Kritika Global may be struggling to find players only via its official site (the play-to-earn model would not be enough to attract players) and Com2uS could estimate that it needs the visibility of Steam, even if it means sacrificing the play-to-earn approach… no doubt hoping that after having tasted the gameplay, players will migrate to the play-to-earn version of the game.
