Ubisoft has not only postponed Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, the game based on James Cameron’s Avatar sequel, but also canceled four more of its planned titles.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Ubisoft’s game based on the feature film from The Division developer Massive Entertainment, has been postponed. The game will now only be released in 2023 or 2042, as Ubisoft recently confirmed as part of its financial results for the first quarter of 2022.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora should be out later this year
Apparently, the release of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has thus been pushed back into the publisher’s next fiscal year, meaning we won’t see the game until after March 31, 2023 now. Ubisoft had previously slated the title for a release later this year. The game was rumored to be releasing to coincide with the release of James Cameron’s heavily delayed, if not excessively, Avatar movie sequel. Avatar: The Way of Water is slated to hit theaters on December 16th.

Ubisoft has also announced a number of other changes to its release schedule. Splinter Cell VR and Ghost Recon Frontline have now been officially discontinued, as have two previously unannounced games. Ubisoft said the decision to scrap all four titles was made taking into account the “uncertain economic environment”. Ghost Recon Frontline wasn’t particularly well received when it was announced last October. It was intended to be a new free installment in Ubisoft’s long-running military shooter series. The main game would have offered a Battle Royale mode and other modes. Splinter Cell VR was announced for release on Oculus devices back in September 2020 and hasn’t been seen since.
