It’s the summer season and the news is a little calmer than usual, publishers and developers favoring the month of June and its E3, and the second half of August with Gamescom to communicate on new features. And who says slack period, says gossip of all kinds sometimes with totally fanciful things coming out of the hat.
We saw it again very recently with Jeff Grubb who announced the shutdown of Roller Champions, forcing Ubisoft to issue a denial in the process to explain that the statements of the journalist from Giant Bomb were totally false. One more snub for those who only relayed verified, and therefore reliable, information a few years ago.
So obviously, we must be wary of the rumor that will follow, especially since it always comes from Jeff Grubb. But the details seem a little more believable to us and that is why we have chosen to share it with you. So, according to good old Jeff, Electronic Arts is working on a Black Panther gametaken from the adventures of the famous Marvel hero.
Information that seems credible insofar as we now know Disney’s desire to distribute its franchises as much as possible in the world of video games. The Prince of Wakanda has already had an adaptation since he has his own scenario in the game Marvel’s Avengers developed at Crystal Dynamics.
Here, Black Panther would take the form of a single-player, open-world adventure game. The game would be in early development, and would be inspired by the success of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. It would currently be developed within the new EA Seattle studio, created a little over a year ago, under the name of Project Rainer, with a team made up of developers who have worked on the Shadow of Mordor franchise.
It will probably be necessary to be patient to obtain the formalization of the project, with a release that we can imagine for 2025or later.
